According to El Universal, nearshoring presents a significant opportunity to attract investments to Mexico. However, to fully capitalize on this trend, states need to focus on key areas identified by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO).
1. Strengthen the Labor Market: Improving workforce quality, providing relevant training, and ensuring English proficiency are essential to attract foreign companies.
2. Ensure Housing and Basic Services: Increasing the availability of housing, ensuring access to services like water and electricity, and providing efficient public transportation are vital to accommodate new workers.
3. Develop Infrastructure: Ensuring a reliable and affordable supply of energy and water, along with adequate infrastructure, is crucial for making states attractive for investment.
4. Improve the Rule of Law and Regulatory Framework: Creating a safe and well-regulated environment, reducing crime, and strengthening government support programs are key factors in fostering investment.
In summary, Mexico needs to focus on these areas to position itself as a competitive destination for the relocation of global supply chains.
