San Luis Potosí continues to shine as one of the top destinations for successful foreign direct investment (FDI) in Mexico. At the close of the second quarter of 2024, the state ranked seventh nationwide, with an impressive figure of $1.064 billion in FDI, representing 3% of the national total, according to data released by the Secretaría de Economía.
This achievement not only reinforces San Luis Potosí’s relevance on the Mexican economic map, but it also highlights its capacity to attract international capital, surpassing traditionally strong states like Puebla, Jalisco, and Querétaro.
- Sustained Growth in National FDI
The success of San Luis Potosí is part of a broader context of sustained growth in FDI across Mexico. During the second quarter of 2024, the country reached a historic high of $31.096 billion in FDI, surpassing the 7% growth rate registered in the same period in 2023.
The manufacturing sector remains the primary recipient of these investments, accounting for 54% of the total, with key industries such as transportation, beverages, tobacco, science, computer equipment, food, and basic metals standing out.
- Diversification and Opportunities
While the United States remains Mexico’s main investment partner, with 44% of total inflows, a growing diversification in the origin of investments is evident. Germany has solidified its position as the second-largest investor in Mexico, contributing 13% of the total, followed by Japan, which accounts for 10%.
With its advanced infrastructure, strategic location, and business-friendly environment, San Luis Potosí continues to consolidate its position as a magnet for FDI. This standing is a testament to the trust that international investors have in the state’s potential to generate growth and opportunities.
