The phenomenon of nearshoring has been a significant driver for the Mexican economy, attracting over 800 companies since 2018. This process, which involves the relocation of foreign companies to the country, is set to continue its expansion in the coming years.
According to the Mexican Association of Private Industrial Parks (AMPIP), 495 new companies are expected to arrive at Mexican industrial parks between 2024 and 2025. Of these, approximately 19.8% will be of Chinese origin.
A survey conducted by BBVA among AMPIP members highlights the growing interest of companies in operating in Mexico due to the advantages of nearshoring. Since 2022, the Ministry of Economy (SE) authorities have noted the interest of 400 companies in moving to the country, an expectation that AMPIP confirms will materialize in the next two years.
Currently, AMPIP manages around 430 industrial parks in 21 states of Mexico, housing more than 3,800 companies, of which:
- 25% are national
- 75% are of foreign origin
- 97% have an export profile
Nearshoring is not just a trend, but a reality that continues to strengthen Mexico’s position as a strategic hub for the global industry.
