The phenomenon of nearshoring continues to position Mexico as an attractive destination for foreign companies. According to the second edition of the ‘BBVA México-AMPIP Survey,’ nearly 400 new companies are expected to set up operations in industrial parks across the country by 2025, with an average of more than 100 new companies per year.
This growth is driven by foreign companies’ interest in bringing their production closer to the U.S. market, where Mexico has established itself as the main trading partner, surpassing China in recent years. In 2023 alone, the arrival of new companies to AMPIP industrial parks increased by 46.3% compared to previous years, demonstrating the acceleration of this trend.
The survey also highlights that 37% of these new companies focus on manufacturing activities, 27% belong to the automotive industry, and 36% are engaged in logistics activities such as storage, distribution, and transportation.
It is expected that by 2024 and 2025, the arrival rate of new companies will remain steady, adding 399 new tenants to AMPIP industrial parks. Of these, 34% will come from the United States, 17% from China, and the remaining 49% from other countries, including Mexico.
Nearshoring is playing a crucial role in the Mexican economy, and its impact will continue to be a driving force for growth and opportunities for foreign investment in the coming years.
