San Luis Potosí continues to strengthen its position as a strategic hub for foreign investment. Chinese company Shandong Golden Empire Precision Machinery Technology Co. (GEB) has announced a $165 million USD investment to establish a new plant in Logistic III Park, located in the municipality of Villa de Reyes.
GEB specializes in manufacturing high-tech equipment and components for key sectors, including the automotive industry, urban railways, robotics, wind energy, and aerospace. Its arrival will boost the region’s industrial and technological development, further expanding the automotive cluster that already comprises over 300 companies in the state.
This investment is part of ten Chinese-led projects that were finalized between 2023 and September 2024, totaling $1.17 billion USD. Other notable Chinese companies in San Luis Potosí include Himile, Unisonal, and Asiaway Automotive. Furthermore, six additional Chinese companies—primarily in the automotive and manufacturing sectors—are expected to join the region soon.
According to Jesús Salvador González Martínez, head of the state’s Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO), San Luis Potosí no longer needs to offer land donations to attract investments, as it once did with BMW and General Motors. Instead, fiscal incentives, streamlined administrative processes, and a favorable business environment have proven to be sufficient to draw foreign companies. Additionally, the USMCA trade agreement offers seamless access to North American markets, further boosting the region’s appeal.
Why Invest in San Luis Potosí?
San Luis Potosí’s strategic location in central Mexico, combined with a well-established supply chain network and a robust automotive cluster, creates ideal conditions for companies seeking growth. The state offers logistical advantages, high connectivity, and a skilled workforce, making it a competitive destination for industries ranging from automotive to advanced manufacturing. With its business-friendly environment and proximity to major export markets, San Luis Potosí represents a prime opportunity for investors looking to expand in Mexico and beyond.
