Strengthening Mexico-France Economic Ties: A Growing Landscape for Foreign Investment

In a recent meeting with French businesses, Mexico’s Undersecretary of Foreign Trade, Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez, and representatives from MEDEF (the largest employer federation in France) discussed enhancing economic and commercial relations between Mexico and France. Representing Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard, Gutiérrez underscored Mexico’s attractive conditions for foreign investment, citing the nation’s strategic geographic position, extensive network of trade agreements, and highly skilled workforce as essential advantages.

The discussions highlighted the success of French companies operating across multiple sectors in Mexico, such as finance, technology, energy, and infrastructure. The French Ambassador to Mexico, Delphine Borione, emphasized the strong political, economic, and cultural bonds between the two countries and reiterated France’s commitment to expanding its investments in Mexico.

Currently, France ranks as Mexico’s sixth-largest European investor and ninth globally, with 550 French companies spread across all 32 Mexican states, generating over 150,000 direct jobs. Notably, 78% of these jobs are outside Mexico City, signaling a significant impact on regional economies. The top sectors include automotive, aerospace, healthcare, energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, and technology. Many of these companies have a substantial presence: 20 employ over 1,000 people each, while six exceed 10,000 employees.

As both countries agreed to deepen their economic cooperation and support ongoing strategic investments, this collaboration offers an optimistic outlook for potential investors. With Mexico’s increasing role as a key player in global supply chains, particularly in nearshoring, and France’s growing interest in diverse sectors, opportunities are ripe for foreign investors seeking stability and long-term growth in the Mexican market.

This renewed focus on Mexico-France relations signals a dynamic landscape for investment, underpinned by strong economic ties and shared goals for business expansion and innovation.
